Girotto is a far right independent politician. He was originally a member of the far right Australia First Party. He was elected to local council in 2012 for the Western Sydney suburb Penrith.
Girotto would leave the AFP in 2013 but remained closely affiliated with the party and its leader Jim Saleam. He and Liberal politician Marcus Cornish were involved in resistance against an Islamic community centre in Penrith, which resulted in protests against its development by far right groups. He was one of the representatives of the so-called Protect Penrith Action Group.
