A far right politician from Queensland. Nelson served in the Australian army prior to his involvement in politics. At the age of 24 he founded his own branch of the One Nation Party in Canberra. On account of his inexperience and personal issues, Nelson’s ACT chapter folded. He relocated to Queensland where he was elected to the seat of Tablelands in 1998.
Nelson was known for his controversial anti immigration views, and his opposition to Native Title, going so far as to compare it to apartheid South Africa. Nelson was one of a number of ONP MP’s that vocally criticised the party’s anti democratic leadership structure, resulting in him splitting from the party and becoming an independent.
