Xavier Herbert

An Australian writer and novelist. Herbert’s work was largely influenced by WW1 and the birth of Australia as a modern nation. He supported the rights of Aboriginals in Australia and promoted their culture in his various literacy works and publications, a cause he would remain devoted to for the rest of his life.

Herbert, during the years leading up to WW2 became a devoted nationalist. Herbert, who’s political beliefs began to reflect in his work led to him being associated with the Jindyworobak Movement, a nationalist literary movement. He later went on to become a leading figure in the pro Axis Australia First Movement which advocated an alliance between Australia and the Axis against the British and Soviet Union.

Following WW2 he was briefly interned for his involvement in the AFM. He died of natural causes in 1984.
